Loneliness in Of Mice and Men - 970 Words

Loneliness in Of Mice and Men The novel Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, takes place during the Great Depression era in the 1930s. Life changed dramatically from the thriving 1920s. Work was hard to find because of the bad economy, and everybody lived tough lives. It was even tougher for African Americans, women, and the elderly because they were all considered useless at the time. Everyone had no respect for them, and they were very low on the social pyramid. Due to their low status and respect, these people were very lonely and wanted companionship of others. Steinbeck depicts these problems through the lives of Crooks, Curley’s wife, and Candy, who are social pariahs on the ranch because of their physical conditions, and therefore,†¦show more content†¦This shows that Candy is very desperate for companionship. Candy’s old age and disabilities get him left out of everybody’s activities, so he is very lonely and sees the dream of the farm as the only way for the rest of his life to be enjoyable. Steinbeck talks about how Crooks, Curley’s wife, and Candy are outcasts on the ranch and because of this they are very lonely and often seek attention of others. Crooks is discriminated against because of his race and he reads books to try to mollify his loneliness. Curley’s wife is the only woman on the ranch and all the men avoid her because of her misjudged behavior, so she is very lonely. Candy is very old so he is excluded from everyone else. His only friend was his dog but it eventually got killed. All of these characters live hopeless lives because they are lonely. Why is this relevant in ‘Of Mice and Men’? The relevance of ‘Of Mice and Men’ being set in the town of Soledad comes from the parallels drawn between the meaning of the name ‘Soledad’ and the deeper sense of loneliness expressed through the characters of the novella. The symbolism of the loneliness that is associated with the town of Soledad establishes an underlying sense of loneliness in all characters. Spanish Language and Latin America Free Essays

1 International Baccalaureate History of the Americas HL Required Summer Reading Study Guide Born in Blood and Fire: A Concise History of Latin America By John Charles Chasteen Foreign Affairs November/December 2000 states: Born in Blood and Fire is a briskly written yet sophisticated introduction to Latin America that will be greatly welcomed by non-specialists and experts alike. Chasteen paints on a very broad canvas, but he succeeds in capturing with enviable conciseness the major ingredients of Latin America’s uniqueness and complexity. Especially welcome is his graceful integration of Brazil into the overall picture, which general histories of Latin America often lack. We will write a custom essay sample on Spanish Language and Latin America or any similar topic only for you Order Now He first takes the reader from the European conquest through the colonial consolidation by Spain and Portugal before looking at the role of indigenous communities in the new order imposed by the Europeans and African slavery’s social and cultural consequences. He then follows with the independence movements and the uneven attempts at nation-building in the nineteenth century; race, ethnicity, religious and liberal ideologies, and the roles of key individuals are also covered. Chasteen concludes with the recent return to economic liberalism, this time in the context of open elections, continuing poverty, and social exclusion of large segments of the population. A stellar performance! Summer Reading Directions: The answers to these questions should be well thought out, typed, 12 point font, single spaced, New Times Roman. Critical Care Nursing Diagnosis and Management

Question: Discuss about the Critical Care Nursing for Diagnosis and Management. Answer: Introduction: The systolic blood pressure in a range of 120-129 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure in a range of 80-84 mmHg considered as normal (NHFA, 2016, p.12). The blood pressure ranges for grade 1 hypertension attribute to 140-159 mmHg (systolic) and 90-99 mmHg (diastolic) (NHFA, 2016). The ranges for grade 2 hypertension recorded as 160179mm Hg (systolic) and 100-109mm Hg (diastolic) (NHFA, 2016). Grade 3 hypertension identified by systolic blood pressure of 180 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of 110mm Hg (NHFA, 2016). The systolic blood pressure of 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure of 90 mmHg is identified as isolated systolic hypertension (NHFA, 2016). The respiratory rate of the patient requires manual recording by the physician while investing 30 seconds in the process of its observation (Anon., 2010). Respiratory rate warrants its recording with the vital signs during each patient observation. The respiratory rate of the patients needs recording on the general observation chart on a daily basis and the abnormal pattern of respiratory rate requires its counting for one complete minute in the context of retaining the accuracy of the recorded value. The pattern of high respiratory rate of the patient requires nursing evaluation of his probable clinical manifestations attributing to anxiety, fear, acidosis, hypercapnia, hypoxia and shock (Urden et al., 2014, p.572). The investigation of medication administration and metabolic demand of the patient also required for tracking the causative factor of patients elevated respiratory rate. The registered nurse professional requires recording of patients ABG and should regularly visit the patient for providing reassurance during the process of clinical intervention. The registered nurse also requires configuring a therapeutic relationship with the patient for reducing the state of distress related to his elevated respiratory rate. The diabetes educator assists in disseminating the basic information regarding the disease process of diabetes to the affected patients in the context of elevating the level of their awareness regarding the disease (Goldstein Mueller-Wieland, 2007, p.48). They facilitate the physical activity, nutritional management and medication monitoring of the diabetes patients while coordinating with physicians and nurses. Since, Mr. Hardy exhibits a 30 year history of diabetes type 2, the diabetes educator requires promoting healthy eating habits in the patient while regularly monitoring his blood glucose level. The diabetes educator needs to educate the patient regarding various healthy coping strategies and problem solving skills for reducing his risk of developing the debilitating diabetic manifestations (Goldstein Mueller-Wieland, 2007). As per Mr. Hardys scenario, the physiotherapist requires customizing appropriate exercise interventions for normalizing his body mass index and blood glucose level (Azurin, 2016). Aerobic exercise approaches along with resistance training interventions require administration by the physiotherapist for stabilizing the HbA1C level of the patient. The physiotherapist needs to monitor the blood glucose level of patient and recommend the exercise interventions in accordance with the allowable limit of blood glucose following its evaluation. The physiotherapist also requires instructing the patient regarding the self-evaluation of skin redness, breaks and swelling for their prophylactic management (Turan et al., 2015). The physiotherapist also needs to facilitate the activities of daily living of the patient while administering therapeutic exercises for increasing his mobility pattern, range of motion, muscular endurance and strength. Since Mr. Hardy is overweight, the general practitioner requires evaluating the cardiovascular risk of the patient while ordering cholesterol lab interventions (RACGP, 2014, p.xi). The general practitioner requires administering first line pharmacotherapy for controlling the elevated blood pressure of the patient. The physician might utilize thiazide diuretics, beta-blockers, or ACE inhibitors in accordance with the clinical condition and CVA status of the affected patient (Gupta Guptha, 2010). The general physician should also recommend appropriate life style interventions and weight and diet management approaches for reducing the risk of the patient in terms of developing the cardiovascular manifestations. The conditions including diabetes, obesity, hypertension and smoking addiction primarily contributed to the development of Mr. Hardys cerebrovascular accident (Alkali et al., 2013). The abnormal blood glucose level of the patient over the course of 30 years facilitated the development of clots on the inside walls of the blood vessels that disrupted the brains oxygen supply leading to the development of stroke. The state of patient's obesity could also have resulted in the deposition of plaques on the arterial walls leading to the formation of arterial clots that might have assisted in the development of stroke in the affected patient (NIH, 2012). The hypertensive state resulted in the development of consistent pressure on the blood vessels near the brain of the patient leading to the occurrence of cardiovascular accident. The pattern of patients smoking might have assisted in the elevation of triglycerides and damaged the internal lining of the blood vessels (CDC, 2016). It could hav e increased the viscosity of blood inside the vessels and facilitated the deposition of cholesterol and calcium on the endothelium of the blood vessels. Resultantly the thickened and narrowed blood vessels could have ruptured due to excessive vascular pressure leading to the appearance of stroke. Within the cardiovascular system, high blood pressure (hypertension) can damage blood vessels by causing the thickening and hardening of the arteries. The pattern of high blood pressure leads to the consistent exertion of additional force against the walls of the arteries. The arteries then eventually narrowed and predisposed towards the development of fibrolipid plaques across their interior walls. The development of stenosis and arteriosclerosis across the arterial region leads to the gradual weakening of the affected arteries and increases their risk of rupture (Carl et al., 2014, p.403). This damage to the blood vessel walls may cause cerebral ischemia leading to the reduction in the supply of oxygenated blood to the brain vasculature. This vascular insufficiency leads to the development of cerebrovascular accident in the affected patient. It is worth noting that the pattern of narrowing of the lumen of blood vessels, deposition of plaques and platelet adhesion results in the establishment of thrombosis in the blood vessels of the brain that leads to their maximum occlusion (Galvagno, 2003, p.303). The occluded vessels experience high risk of rupture and the eventual establishment of acute ischemic stroke. Untreated high blood pressure can decrease the vascular resistance and elevates the risk of the development of acute ischemic stroke (Mayo-Clinic, 2016). It also causes arterial narrowing and damage and facilitates the deposition of dietary fats on the arterial lumen. The development of arterial stenosis results in the blockage of vascular supply to the vital organs as well as extremities. High blood pressure, if left untreated, might also cause enlargement and bulging of weakened arteries in the form of aneurysm (Mayo-Clinic, 2016). Untreated high blood pressure also facilitates the development of coronary artery disease, cardiac enlargement and cardiac failure. The other brain conditions that might develop because of untreated blood pressure include transient ischemic attack, dementia and mild cognitive impairment (Mayo-Clinic, 2016). When a stroke, caused by cerebral hemorrhage within the central nervous system (the brain) occurs, effects depend on the development of hypertension and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (Aguilar Brott, 2011). Furthermore, conditions arising from factor deficiencies, antiplatelet medication and anticoagulant-induced coagulopathy lead to the establishment of cerebral hemorrhage and subsequent occurrence of stroke in the affected patients. The lymphoproliferative as well as thrombocytopathic conditions also assist in the development of cerebrovascular infarction followed by cerebral hemorrhage (Aguilar Brott, 2011). Patients affected with white matter ischemic disease and hypertension experience the high risk of developing the pattern of cerebral hemorrhage. The development of cerebral hematoma is also a risk factor for the occurrence of cerebral ischemia, cerebral hemorrhage and associated stroke pattern. Conditions like chronic kidney disease, alcoholism and drug abuse also increase the risk of stroke development among the affected patients. Advancing age of the diabetic patient also influences the occurrence of cerebral hemorrhage and cerebrovascular infarction (Aguilar Brott, 2011). Age associated degenerative change in the cerebral arterioles facilitates the development of lacunar stroke and associated manifestations. The clinical conditions like hyperlipidemia, smoking addiction, coagulopathy and utilization of recreational drugs also increase the risk of development of cerebral hemorrhage and infarction in predisposed patients (Aguilar Brott, 2011). The pattern of hemorrhagic stroke might result in the development of abnormal involuntary movements in the affected patient (Siniscalchi et al., 2012). The patient might also experience headache, nausea, vomiting and alteration in consciousness in relation to the episode of hemorrhagic stroke (Liebeskind O'Connor, 2016). Hemorrhagic stroke can lead to the development of seizures and increased intracranial pressure. The paralysis of dormant or non-dormant side of the body and weakness of extremities considered as the direct outcomes of hemorrhagic stroke (Liebeskind O'Connor, 2016). Focal neurological conditions like facial droop, monocolular/binocular blindness, blurred vision, dysarthria, vertigo and aphasia also result from the development of hemorrhagic stroke in the affected patient (Liebeskind O'Connor, 2016). Stroke that arises from subarachnoid hemorrhage leads to the development of syncope, photophobia, ocular pain and nuchal rigidity (Liebeskind O'Connor, 2016). Stroke a ssociated with cerebral hemorrhage in many clinical scenarios lead to the development of anemia and fever (Caceres Goldstein, 2012). The patient might also experience a decline in the blood glucose level after the onset of hemorrhagic cerebral infarction (Caceres Goldstein, 2012). The two significant deficits experienced by Mr. Hardy that require nursing care include the pattern of his immobility and lack of personal hygiene. The mobility restriction of Mr. Hardy relates to his left side paralysis in relation to the pattern of cerebrovascular accident. Mr. Hardys unwillingness regarding practicing personal hygiene measures relates to the absence of support systems and home care services that has affected his state of mind to a significant extent. Therefore, the administration of appropriate nursing interventions highly warranted for assisting him in terms of activities of daily living and personal care while overcoming the hygiene issues and treatment related challenges. Nursing interventions warranted for Mr. Hardy include the administration of assistance to facilitate his activities of daily living and mobility level. The reduction in cardiovascular deconditioning of the patient while assisting him in acquiring various sitting postures required for improving his physical condition. The administration of walking intervention required for increasing the confidence of the client in terms of enhancing the level of his mobility. Assisting the patient in accomplishing the requirements of personal hygiene will decrease his risk of acquiring contagious conditions across the hospital environment. The regular evaluation, of patients skin condition also required for preventing the onset and establishment of bed sores (in relation to the pattern of his immobility) during the process of clinical intervention. The major barriers to the nursing interventions include the patients unwillingness in attaining mobility and hygiene measures with the assistance of nursi ng professional. References Aguilar, M.I. Operation Barbarossa essays

Operation Barbarossa essays At the height of his power, Adolf Hitler had the world by the throat. His reign of terror was known in every country around the globe. His strengths as a leader were based mainly in politics; charisma mixed with intelligence. People would follow his lead, run blindly into battle, commit atrocities the likes of which the world had never seen, and not think twice about it. An uncanny ability to sway millions to follow, does not however constitute ability as a military general. Hitlers eventual decline begun with the invasion of Russia, code named "Operation Barbarossa". After this military blunder, the tide of the war began to sway, and the power of Nazi Germany decreased with each passing day. Why did Operation Barbarossa fail so terribly? Hitlers generals had tried desperately to talk him out of it, but he was convinced Russia would fall to the Werhmarcht (German Army). Breaking his non-aggression pact with Stalin, to invade Russia was the most costly mistake Hitler ever made. It se ems that fate is not without irony, as it would be the advancing Russians that eventually brought Germany to its knees. The ultimate ideological goal for Operation Barbarossa was to destroy Communist Russia, but Germanys original intent for invading Russia was to gain control of the oil and wheat regions in the Crimea territory. At this point in the war shortages of petrol, oil, and lubricants were hindering German war efforts. The strategy for invasion however was flawed with many lapses, and uncertainties. The German Army High Command, the German Armed Forces High Command, and even Hitler himself had contradictory ideas. This combined to lead to a number of blunders, unresolved conflicts, and unmet objectives. Hitler was basing his invasion on his delusional belief that the bulk of the Soviet forces could be trapped and destroyed by the time his armies reached the Dneiper River. He also was certain that Stalins "Great ...

Prescribe vs. Proscribe

Prescribe vs. Proscribe Prescribe vs. Proscribe Prescribe vs. Proscribe By Sharon Only one letter separates this oppositional pair. To prescribe is to order the use of or set out a rule. From this we get a prescription, which sets out how you are to take a particular medicine. We also get prescriptive grammar, which is grammar that presumes that there is one set of grammatical rules that everyone should follow. In contrast, to proscribe is to forbid, ban or denounce. It originates from the Latin meaning to post in writing and described the 16th century practice of posting public notices about those who had been condemned. To keep the usage straight, think of this. If you are studying at college your set texts are prescribed, while texts that you are not allowed to read are proscribed. Incorrect Usage Some times even large publications get it wrong, like here: Prosecutors have portrayed 57-year-old Martin MacNeill as a lying adulterer who pestered his 50-year-old wife to get a face-lift and persuaded her plastic surgeon to proscribe a mix of potentially lethal pills for her recovery. (USA Today) Correct Usage Some emergency room doctors are far more likely than others even within their own department to prescribe opioids to treat pain in older people, and their patients are at greater risk of using the powerful drugs chronically than those who saw doctors who prescribe them less frequently, according to a large new study. (NY Times) Increasingly, the rules of workplace culture proscribe all sorts of talk about sex, and enforce this proscription with sensitivity training and strategic mention of lawsuits. A Briefing on the Process at the Federal Court Building Assignment

A Briefing on the Process at the Federal Court Building - Assignment Example Under the US law, bail can be claimed as a right by the defendant. Soon after a crime came to surface, prosecutor is called and consulted about the measures to be taken. Under the US judicial system if a defendant is arrested he or she may be produced the same day or the next day in the court of magistrate for a preliminary hearing. In the legal process, examination and direct examination are of utmost importance to prove and accused liable for punishment or not. The judicial hierarchy of the United States of America in the broader spectrum has two tiers, one is the federal court and the other is each state court. Majority of the cases are sorted out in the subordinate courts therefore, minimize the shifting of cases to the high court and the federal court. Usually the generalized courts in the US judicial system are circuit, superior, district and courts of common pleas. The apex court manages criminal complaints from the lodgment to its resolution or disposition through their Crimi nal Division. In the criminal cases, the burden of proof lies on the shoulders of the state rather than the defendants. Soon after a crime comes to surface, prosecutor is called and consulted about the measures to be taken. The legal battle, which starts from the lower court, all the way leads to the Apex Court of United States of America. This paper discusses the briefing on the process at the federal court building. Q1. US Judicial System The US judicial system is comprised of Federal Court and fifty States Courts. Each one has its own foundation and function. The U.S court system consists of many court systems, which included a federal system and fifty state systems. Each has its own structures, procedures and functions. Legal cases are to file in different subordinate courts depending on the nature of the case. In some cases jurisdiction of the High Court can directly be invoked. The legal battle lastly ends up in the Federal Court (Friedman, 2004). Multifaceted Courts Majority of the cases are sorted out in state trial courts, which are the lowest court in the state judicial system. Take the example of Simpson’s case wherein both criminal and civil trials were conducted in a California trial court. It all depends on the structure of state court system. It includes justice of peace courts, circuit courts and regional trial courts (Friedman, 2004). In the US judicial System, there are two types of trial courts: one is with limited jurisdiction and the other one with specific jurisdiction. Trial courts of limited jurisdiction can hear the civil, juvenile, minor criminal and traffic violation cases. It can also hold pre trial hearings for serious criminal offences (Friedman, 2004). Usually the generalized courts in the US judicial system is circuit, superior, district and courts of common pleas. The mentioned courts hear the cases of substantial amounts, serious crimes except those heard in the trial courts of limited jurisdiction whereas the specializ ed courts can hear the cases, which fall under the umbrella of specific law or Act (Friedman, 2004). The appellate courts have the jurisdiction to review the decision of the trial courts. The mentioned courts either uphold the decisions of the trial courts, set aside the decision or order retrial as the case may be (Friedman, 2004). Q2. Soon after the arrest of a person, probation officer of the court immediately interviews and conducts the investigation to know the defendant background. The information and investigation will be of great help for the judge to

Wall Street Journal Article - Summary Assignment

Wall Street Journal Article - Summary - Assignment Example Thought this timing of granting options cannot be termed as illegal, critics believe that providing such grants at the time of merging helps the parent companies acquire the target with low cost premium relative to other bidders. As discussed in Chapter 41, stock options were given to the employees of the company in order to provide them with motivation towards team success and organization improvement. But it could lead to ill effects as such the employees trying to do illegal activities like rewriting books in order to keep their options in a profit rate. The article proves as evidence to what was discussed about the illegal activities. The allowance of extra shares to executive officers during a pre-deal affects the value of share holders stocks in a large way. The grants of the shareholders are affected in two ways, one being positive to them, the other in a negative way. The shareholders can be deprived of their share value with the dilution of its cost by providing extra shares to officers. Or, they can benefit with the incentives that are obtained through the merging with other companies. The executive officers, due to the extensive revenue they get through takeover bids promote mergers and acquisitions in a large way. Examples of such merger acquisition done in the past two years include the taking over of Marvel pictures by Walt Disney, where the CEO reaped $34 millions in cash through selling stock options. The allowance of providing pre-deal options to executives is termed as a selfish act by critics and is compared in terms with another activity considered to be controversial, â€Å"SpringLoading†. Though the details were discussed with the SEC, they have declined to take any direct action against it except for ruling that the acquiring companies have to show their annual proxy statements. As the article suggests, the executives convert their options to shares as soon as the deal closes out. This was

Dickens Great Expectations Essay Example for Free

Dickens Great Expectations Essay Pips account of the events that took place after visiting Miss Havisham My Uncle Pumblechook took me to the home of Miss Havisham. The initial image I had was of a dismal house made from old brick with the windows either bricked up or barred and with a disused brewery at the side of the property. Obviously once a luxurious house it was now beginning to crumble and decay. A very beautiful young girl called Estella met me. Although only my age she seemed to delight in calling me boy. She told me the Manor house also had the name Satis House which in Greek, Latin or Hebrew means Enough house and she claimed that whoever had this house would want for nothing, I found this a curious fact. I went in through the side door as the great entrance had two bars across it. I followed Estella who was holding a single candle along dark passages, where all daylight was excluded. Once Estella and I arrived at a door, she left me in pitch black telling me scornfully she didnt want to go in. I was nervous and apprehensive, however given no other choice I knocked at the door. Once told to enter I found myself in a large dark room in which initially my eyes focused on a draped dressing table festooned with many objects. On further observations I spotted an armchair, sitting in which, I saw the strangest lady I had ever seen before and knew I ever would again. Dressed all in white the bridal dress she wore must have once been worn by a young woman, however now it was seen on an old women whose shrunken body was mere skin and bones. All I could conjure up was the comparison of Miss Havisham to a waxwork skeleton, now in the ashes of a rich dress. The bridal dresses luxurious fabrics of satin, lace and silk were now yellow, faded and paper-thin, and added to this the flowers in her hair and veil gave me the uncomfortable feeling that the women was now dressed in her grave clothes. When Miss Havishams dark eyes turned to look at me I felt utter alarm and wanted to shout, but nothing came out. With my eyes still intently taking in the untidy room, with clothes and personal effects scattered around and with one shoe on her foot and the other on the table, I gave Miss Havisham my name and told her I had come to play. As I was told to come nearer I noted that both her watch and room clock had stopped at twenty minutes to nine, I wondered why this would be? Although afraid of her I felt the necessity to lie when she asked if I was afraid of her, the fact she hadnt seen daylight since before I was born only accentuated my trepidation of her. As she touched her heart it reminded me of the young man and when she told me it was broken I saw her face fill with a weird boastful smile. I had come to play, to entertain Miss Havisham, but I didnt know what to do, she thought that I was being very sullen and obstinate, however I told her that I was sorry for her and was finding everything new, strange and melancholy. I had to call Estella as Miss Havisham told us to play cards together. As I could only play Beggar my Neighbour Estellas contempt of me seemed to grow, I was merely a labouring boy and one that called a knave a Jack. Why did she think so little of me and make me feel conscience for the first time of my coarse hands and common boots? Miss Havisham appeared to watch us in a transfixed expression, like that of a corpse, as though her whole body and soul had dropped and mere daylight would turn her to dust. I had to whisper to Miss Havisham what I thought of Estella and realised that although she was very pretty I also found her very proud and insulting, although deep down I realised I would like to see her again. I did hear Miss Havisham earlier telling Estella she could break my heart if she desired, I wonder what she meant by this? I had a great wish to go home, but on Miss Havishams request I have agreed to return in six days. Being without natural light, I almost thought it must be dark outside so I was hit by the daylight when re-entering the courtyard. On orders from Miss Havisham, Estella brought me some food, however the look she gave me was one that I felt such humiliation and hurt that tears sprang to my eyes. Realising I was morally sensitive and timid seemed to bring pleasure to Estella and she enjoyed treating me as though I was a disgraced dog. Feeling better from the food I was again aware of the whole oppressive wilderness, a crooked pigeon house, with no pigeons, no animals, just a total emptiness. In the brewery building I saw Estella above in the gallery and hanging a figure of the old women in her faded white apparel, when I turned to look again enormous fear hit me, it had vanished! Desperate to go Estella unlocked the door for me, she appeared so superior to me and seeing me cry seemed to fuel her need to taunt me even more. I just felt my self-esteem was at an all time low, I obviously have despicable habits and Im more ignorant than I had ever realised.

Public Relations on Campus :: essays research papers

Public Relations on Campus   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There are many problems on campus that could use public relation strategies. One that most comes to mind is the local business participation in campus activities. There are many local businesses that show support in Middle Tennessee State University at their bars or clubs, but they cannot be found at an on-campus event. It is like they use MTSU to improve their business and their name, but they cannot repay the favor. But to their surprise, they could use sponsoring campus activities as an excellent source of advertising.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The public relation strategy that they could use is coordinating special events. By being partial sponsors to these campus events, they could get their name out to numerous college students. In my opinion, this would probably be the best source of advertising for local bars or clubs welcoming college students. Sponsoring special events could increase the business in local companies while meeting the PRSA ethics code. RATV April 1, 2002 The Experience of M*A*S*H   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  For my interview, I chose to question my father. He said that through all the mediums of media, he could best relate to and remember the 1970’s hit series, M*A*S*H. He told me how it first started as a book by Dr. Richard Hornberger and later evolved into a movie and one of the highest rated television shows in history. He said that the show started in 1972 and ended eleven years later in 1983. Over its eleven year run, the show consisted of 256 episodes and countless awards. My father said that this show was very easy to relate to in that time and fit for anyone to watch. Through raw comedy, compassion, and drama, M*A*S*H became a household name and an addiction for many television enthusiasts like my father.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The comedy of M*A*S*H is what mostly attracted my father to the television every week. He said that the cast was irreplaceable and could never be duplicated.

A Look at Life Before the Internet, and After the Internet Essay

Times have changed, drastically, especially when it comes to the Internet. From banking to dating and from research to shopping, the Internet provides us with such conveniences we rarely need to leave our homes. History should not be defined as B.C. and A.D.; it should be defined as B.I. (before the Internet) and A.I. (after the Internet). I am at an age that has allowed me to experience life with, and without, the Internet. My kids, however, have grown up with the Internet their whole lives. Internet was not an offered course when I attended high school; it is a requirement for 4thgraders at my youngest son’s school. The impact of the Internet on our everyday lives has been miraculous. We no longer have to wait in line at the bank, for the arrival of the newspaper or the 5:00 news on TV, or the phone line to clear to communicate with friends or family. Shopping does not necessarily mean driving to the mall and going to school does not necessarily mean attending classes on cam pus. We will examine some of the ways the Internet has changed our lives. Let usstart with banking. Before the Internet, banking meant having to wait for your statement to balance your checkbook; going into the bank to transfer funds; and paying your bills by writing checks. Nowadays you can access your bank account(s) online, and most are in real-time, which makebalancing your checkbook very simple. Banks also offer an online bill-pay service, which means you do nothave to write a check. The money transfers from your account directly to the company to which you owe money. Transferring money between accounts can be done online as well. Applying for a loan is another service offered by most banks’ websites, making it possible to receive an answer within minutes. Next, we will discuss the B.I. and A.I.forms of communication.A Look at Life Before the Internet, and After the Internet Times have changed, drastically, especially when it comes to the Internet. Quota System in Bangladesh

Introduction: Quota System/Policy is a hiring policy, where a specified number or percentages of specific group members are to be hired. In Bangladesh every government jobs are enriched with the quota system. Different types of quota are available in both cadre and non-cadre class I & II jobs. The persons are selected for government jobs either from merit basis or district basis. Quota system was introduced in the government service by an executive order in 1972, where 45% are reserved on merit, rest 55% is distributed as 30% for children of freedom fighters, 10% for women, 10% for districts and 5% for indigenous people.Recruitment into different Cadres of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) is in accordance with the provisions of this rule. No direct appointment can be given in BCS Cadre Service without the recommendation of the Public Service Commission, and examinations are held (both written & viva-voce). The purpose of this quota system is to equally develop the country but whene ver we compromise the selection at the highest level of government service through quota implies the negative impact on the improvement of governance. From the perspective of Human Resource Management, Quota System never be a good selection tools because it discriminates the humans. Whenever we are going for any quota system which will must hide to select right people at right place at right time. [pic] To run any sector whether it is public or private people play a prime role which start from manpower planning. In figure-1 it is assumed that the recruitment & selection process is quota-free and hence entirely depends on merit. Therefore we would get a fair competition and as such we would obtain best fit for the organization. In long run, as they are fairly and merit-based selected, they would be more inspired, motivated, pro-active, result-oriented and careerist. At the end there would more possibility of nurture of talent, otherwise retain of talent would be impossible. Besides, th e quota-free selection ensures Equal Employment Opportunity. In the contrast, in Fig. it has been assumed that, the selection process is quota based, ie, we have to fill-up quota rather than selection right fit leading to non-compliance of Equal Employment Opportunity. These employees would be, no doubt, less motivated, inspired and re-active. Therefore there would be possibility by the management to exploit them rather nurture, because retain of such employees are not a big deal as they are not careerist, result-oriented. ———————– Figure 1: HR Tier In Terms of Talent Management Figure 2: Impact of Quota In HR Read also: Padma Bridge

Astro-Hoaxes You Shouldnt Take Seriously

Astro-Hoaxes You Shouldnt Take Seriously Every year we see stories about how Earth is going to be hit by an asteroid, or that Mars will be as big as the full Moon, or a NASA probe has found evidence of life on Mars. In fact, the list of astronomy hoaxes is never-ending. One way to find out whats really happening is to check out the debunking site Snopes. Their writers are usually on top of the latest stories, and not just in weird science. Earth as a Target: Maybe, but Not the Way You Think The recurring story about Earth and an incoming asteroid  usually shows up in the supermarket press, often with a projected date, but few other details. It almost always cites NASA, but doesnt name a scientist who is making the prediction. In addition, the story rarely mentions amateur astronomers and their observations. There are thousands of these people around the world watching the skies, and if an incoming asteroid were to be on a collision course with Earth, theyd see it (unless it was really quite small). It is true that NASA and a world-wide group of both professional and amateur observers are monitoring the space near Earth for any possible Earth-crossing asteroids. Those would be the most likely types of objects to pose a threat to our planet. Announcements of Earth-crossing or Earth-approaching asteroids would show up at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Near Earth Object Program web page. And  such objects are usually spotted pretty far in advance. The known Potentially Hazardous asteroids have very, very small chances of colliding with Earth in the next 100 years; its less than one tenth of one percent of a chance.  So, the answer to whether or not theres an asteroid homing in on Earth is No. Just no. And, for the record, supermarket tabloids are not scientific journals. Mars Will Be as Big as the Full Moon!   Of all the astronomy hoaxes to circulate on the web, the idea that Mars will look as big as the full Moon on some given date is one of the most inaccurate. The Moon lies 238,000 miles away from us; Mars never gets closer than 36 million miles. Theres no way they can look the same size, not unless Mars wants to get a lot closer to us, and if it did, it would be pretty catastrophic. The hoax began with a poorly worded email announcing that  Mars - as seen through a 75-power telescope - would look as big as the full Moon would look to the naked eye. This was supposed to occur in 2003, when Mars and Earth were closest to each other in their orbits (but still more than 34 million miles apart). Now, the same rumor comes around every year. No matter where we are in our orbits with respect to each other, Mars will look like a small point of light from Earth and the Moon will look big and lovely. NASA Is (Not) Hiding Life on Mars The red planet Mars currently has two working rovers on its surface:  Opportunity and Curiosity. They are sending back images of rocks, mountains, valleys, and craters. Those images are taken during daylight hours under all kinds of lighting conditions. Occasionally an image shows a rock in the shadows. Due to our propensity to see faces in rocks and clouds (a phenomenon called pareidolia), its sometimes easy to see a shadowy rock as a form, a crab, or a statue of a debutante. The infamous Face on Mars turned out to be a rocky bluff with shadows that looked like eyes and a mouth. It was a trick of light and shadow playing across rock outcrops and cliffs. Its like the Old Man of the Mountain in New Hampshire in the United States. It was a rock overhang that, from one angle, looked like an old mans profile. If you looked at it from another direction, it was just a rocky cliff. Now, because it cracked and crashed to the ground, its a pile of rock. There are already some pretty interesting things on Mars that science can tell us about, so theres no need to imagine fantastic creatures where only rocks exist. And, just because Mars scientists debunk the existence of a face or a rock that looks like a crab does not mean theyre hiding life on Mars. If they had found any shred of evidence of living beings on the red planet now (or in the past), it would be huge news. At least, thats what common sense tells us. And common sense is an important factor in doing science as well as exploring the universe.

Schooling the World Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Schooling the World - Term Paper Example InSchooling the World: The White Man’s Last Burden, the main conflict as depicted in the film is that of traditional education versus contemporary education. Based on the film, it is evident that modern education has had a huge impact on most traditional societies such as Ladakh. To begin with, the fact that most schools offering contemporary education are located in major urban areas, has meant that families have to move near cities in order to secure their children admission to such schools. This has subsequently negatively impacted on their societies. Not only has led to separation of family members, but has also led to change of traditional roles. For instance, one woman in Ladakh village narrates how her children have moved to the nearest urban area in search for modern education for their children. This has in turn led to a change in the traditional duties (Black, 2010). Unlike before where it was males’ responsibility to take of their homes and feed the livestock , the widow is forced to do all these chores. On the same point, traditionalists and opponents of modern schooling also argue that in contrast to the past where education entailed teaching children moral education based on the religious principles of Buddhism, modern education is more focused on teaching children foreign culture and language (Black, 2010). This is regarded as a form of drainage of the traditions and heritage of most societies. As matter of fact, it is deemed as destruction of the viable seeds of tradition, thereby posing the danger of extinction of the traditional cultures. Additionally, the emphasis of modern education on the spirit of competition in school performance has also had a spill-over effect on the lives of most children attending such institutions. Most children are growing to live more self-centered lives, eroding the conventional rules and values of compassion and generosity within the

How environment affects architecture Assignment

How environment affects architecture - Assignment Example building, the architect has an obligation of knowing the culture of the individuals that surround them, as well as the environment in which the structure is to be laid. It aids in the successful production of buildings for both the behavioral and mental activities. In addition, if an engineer is designing, for an instant, a bridge or even a machine, he/she makes drawings where every line results into great integration of principles and laws from various mechanical sciences. The machines or the structures are designed in a manner that they bear some level strain or perform a particular function (Gissen, 2009). This is quite similar to architectural work where when an architect is designing a structure or a town each minute detail is reliant on the application of set of laws (mechanical). In addition to these laws, they also integrate set of other science principles whose scopes may not be vividly defined such as those that relate human beings with the environment. These sciences such as the climatology and economics among others are as vital as the mechanical sciences. This is to ensure that the structure constituted by the architect protects the various elements that surfaces or are bound to surface due to the structures to be established (Pastor & Molina, 2007). The machines are usually less or not entirely affected by the environment. Moreover, climate has little impact on the machines. However, humans being constantly interact with the environment by either changing it or being changed by the environment. In turn the environment affects buildings and structures (Bergmann, 2009). For example, the climate or microclimate of a particular area or locality and the structures surrounding the building usually mold that particular building in such a way that the shape and the design of the structure may be influenced by the factors highlighted. There are some effects of climate that can be observed on various forms of architectural works. For an instant, the ration

Respond Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 1

Respond - Movie Review Example After a long duration of attempting to provide answers to his questions, Tim formulated a thesis and his work brought to a halt the raising of more question and judgments. He concluded his research process convinced that Vermeer used optical devices to undertake his work in painting. Tim ultimately answered the numerous questions that he posed and that his critics could have raised. Through setting on a course to establish the techniques that a predecessor artist used in his work, one can say that Tim engages in a process of critical inquiry. To guide the endeavor, he had to pose critical questions that he was to provide their answers based on his research. However, Tim was successful in narrowing down the differences that existed in his initial views and Vermeer’s perception and techniques or tools of art. Through successfully answering his critical questions, he minimizes the broader discourse that would have existed between his perception and Vermeer’s views on the techniques and tools of art. Therefore, Tim harmonizes his views with his predecessor through confirming the validity of his thesis. Tim’s rhetorical situation is that he seems to become obsessed with work that was originally done by another artist. His situation leaves one wondering whether he lacks originality or whether he just needs to prove a point. The fact that he confi rms the techniques used in Vermeer’s work was not any different from what he thought is a sign that there is no discovery that he

Strategic Business Management And Planning Bentley Security Company Marketing Essay

Strategic Business Management And Planning Bentley Security Company Marketing Essay Business is a dynamic field, (education 1951) where things change fast way. If some company makes mistake in its decisions either short terms or long terms it is always on losing side, and sometimes there is no come back from a dog position in a dynamic market. In this case study we will learn how process models and other tools help to analyze the situation of any business and how companies can effectively use these analysis tools to help them in bad situation as in this case study Bentley Security Company is facing. For answering the three questions of the case study we will go into analysis of the situation using by use of process model analysis, porter five analyses and SWOT analysis, while answering to first question. We will also analyze through the analysis of corporate finance, expansion matrix for company, its product life cycle, its product positioning, its value chain and its competitive position. For answering second question we will analyze why company was fail to realize its core competency related to its value productions. In final question we will answer analyze the expected future profits as said by the CEO of the company that if they will be capable of overcoming the issue of bargain price, return over equity, rising debts, changing security Inc into profit generating component of business and by gaining the confidence of the market . In the end we will conclude the study and will sum it up towards some concrete learning outcome, which can be practical in real business situations which we can face as business strategist working with any company. We will see how any company which facing problems like Bentley Security, can make good strategic choices? 1.1 Background of the study: Bentley is a Security Company that has been trading in Gotham City for twenty five years. Recently, the senior management team met to review progress. Finance Director: I am concerned about our recent financial performance and it seems to me that we are in danger of being taken over at a bargain price. Our return on owners equity is 2% below the industry average and we have a large debt arising from the leverage purchase of Security Services Inc. What we can do to improve our financial results as soon as possible and, at the same time, convince the market that we have a long term viable future? Marketing Manager: In my view we have an excellent portfolio and our problem are mainly due to poor cost control. We progressed from our base in producing domestic alarm systems into commercial systems and then acquired Security Services Inc which provides guard and watch services for commercial premises that capitalized on our core skills at each stage. We decided into diversify because the domestic market was saturated and there have been large increases in the number of suppliers because it is now an easy business to get into as the technology has become standardized. The commercial sector was growing due to the current economic boom; but we have been stuck at 12% market share in the commercial systems market and while Security Services Inc had over 300 service contracts when we acquired it, we have not yet been able to attract any new customers. Human Resource Manager: I should point out that I find it difficult dealing with security personnel and this could be one reason for the fact that we dont make much profit on the security contracts. CEO: If we address the short and long term issues mentioned by the finance director, then we shall remove the incentive for anyone to take us over. But in the meantime, we should investigate the possibility of undertaking a management buy-out (MBO). Issues: Others companies have competing price Finance situation is poor 2% less profits /returns on investors equity Increasing debt Poor cost control Increasing saturation in domestic market Growing new rivals No new customer for security Inc Poor performance of security staff Turning point: Before acquisition of Security Inc Bentley was performing well in alarms production, after acquisition of that company things went poor as Bentley was unable to win new customers. Accounts issues: More expenses at corporate HQ More interest payments on debts Effective use of product development Less expenditure on marketing Control of cash flow that is negative Control of loaning Commercial alarms and security Inc required improvement Product development required as more expenses and attentions on warranty demands Price is far less than market in commercial alarm its 500 as compare to 600 and in security personal its 17000 as compare to 20000 per annum Plus Points: 25 years of experience Good performance in domestic and commercial alarm productions Targets: New targets that could make Bentley again in growth can be its financial targets of increasing the profits and reduction of debts and other costs. Further it also required to win investor confidence over its performance in the market. Suggestions by CEO: Removal of incentives for competitors Management buy-out 2 Question One: Use strategic models to identify the actions the management team might take to deal with Bentleys short term and long term problems. 2 Answer: Bentley is an ideal case study to see how a business that was making progress in last twenty five years suddenly started a decline that brought management to sit and analyze the situation before it is too late. To make a better analysis of situation and get solutions for Bentleys short term and long term problems we need to make following analysis 2.1 Corporate Finance As the study shows that Bentley is suffering from financial problems. So, Bentley management required urgent attention and for that there can be few short term and other long term strategies to control over the finance issues. Short Term Choices: Bentley should make right sizing at its head quarter as it has extra staffing on its head office. It should stop debt as its costing more on payments. Bentley should adjust more on marketing their alarms. Long Term Choices Bentley should get more investment than loan by developing its market position. It should put some finance on product development. It should put finance on marketing. It should invest more on its human resource to get competent staff for security Inc. It should utilize its assets and inventories more into alarm production. Expansion matrix Ansoffs Product and Market Matrix Figure 1: Ansoff Matrix Market Penetration: As it is the strength of the Bentley they must try to recapture and get advantage of the existing market by promoting their domestic alarms and commercial alarms and try to get some repositioning of the brand. Market penetration for Bentley required covering of the four main objectives: Maintain or increase the market share of current products this can be achieved by a combination of competitive pricing strategies, advertising, sales promotion and perhaps more resources dedicated to personal selling Increase usage by existing customers. For example by introducing loyalty schemes. Market Development: They can also go for new markets with the existing product range in these new markets. This means that the product will remains the same, but it is marketed to a new customers. Exporting the product, or marketing it in a new region. There are many possible ways of approaching this strategy, including: New geographical markets; for example exporting the product to a new country New product dimensions or packaging: for example, New distribution channels New pricing policies to attract different customers or create new market segment Product Development: This is a new product to be marketed to existing customers. Here they can develop and innovate new product offerings to replace existing ones. Such products are then marketed to our existing customers. Diversification: Bentley can go for the diversification which can be separated into horizontal and vertical. The horizontal diversification is the addition into the production program like new kind of alarms. The vertical diversification is at the sales stage where company needs to store products according to demand. Product Life Cycle If we compare the two alarms developed by the Bentley we can find that these products are on maturity stage and looking towards a decline as Bentley fail to keep the innovation accordingly. They need more efforts to bring innovation changes and effectiveness of the products so they can put the product back on its growth. Figure 2: Bentley product life cycle Similarly their door supervisors company or security Inc is complete in decline as they fail to generate new customers and now form here it seems total dog stage in a market. Still they can either decide to keep it or they can go back to their core competencies of alarm production. If they want to retain it they need to redesign the human resource management which is completely fail to produce any result since they acquired this company. Figure 3: PLC possibility for Bentley 2.4 Value Chain We can better understand the actions of Bentley through it developed a competitive advantage and create shareholder value by a value chain analysis. In his 1985 book Competitive Advantage, Michael Porter introduced a generic value chain model (M. E. Porter 1998) that comprises a sequence of activities found to be common to a wide range of firms. The aim of these actions is to put forward to the customer a value of product that exceeds the cost of the process, and easily brings in a profit margin. As it can be analyze in value chain model that Bentley have some core competencies and the activities in which it can pursue a competitive advantage as follows: Cost advantage: by better understanding costs and squeezing them out of the value-adding activities. Differentiation: by focusing on those activities associated with core competencies and capabilities in order to perform them better than do competitors. Cost Advantage A firm may create a cost advantage either by reducing the cost of individual value chain activities or by reconfiguring the value chain. As Porter identified ten cost drivers related to value chain activities, So Bentley can go through each and seek what is workable for them in this process: Economies of scale in production of alarms Capacity utilization thats in alarm production Linkages among activities at the company Interrelationships among business units by aligning security inc with alarm business Institutional factors must be controlled especially in security Inc(regulation, union activity, taxes, etc.) At Bentley cost advantage also can be pursued by reconfiguring the value chain. Reconfiguration means structural changes such a new production process, new distribution channels, or a different sales approach. For example, FedEx structurally redefined express freight service by acquiring its own planes and implementing a hub and spoke system. (Fedex 1995-2000) Differentiation Bentley can achieve a differentiation advantage either by shifting individual value chain actions to add to distinctiveness in its alarms or it can get it by reconfiguring the value chain. It can go into forward integration in order to carry out some functions that were performed by its customers like categorization of its alarm systems and models according to customers need. It can adopt a backward integrate to manage over its inputs. It can implement new process technology or utilize a new supply channel. Technology Because technology is in use to some degree in every value creating action, changes in technology can bring competitive advantage. Bentley is using various technologies in both primary activities and support activities as its given below: Inbound Logistics Technologies Transportation of materials Material handling inside production place Material storage at stores Operations Technologies Process of production Machine tools used for production and handling Packaging of the alarms Maintenance of finished goods Testing of alarms Building design operation Outbound Logistics Technologies Transportation of alarms supply to supply stores Material handling inside stores Packaging for supply Communications between all departments involved Marketing and Sales Technologies Media utilization ( Print/electronic/Audio/video) Communications Service Technologies Testing Communications Linkages of Activities Bentley can redesign the alarms for with different shapes and qualities for different customers. This way even it can reduce manufacturing costs. If it is be able to reduce cost in one activity and as a result benefit from a cost reduction in another, from a design change and successfully reduces manufacturing costs and it also further improves due to this costs reduction. Thus it can such improvements the firm has the potential to develop a competitive advantage. Business Units Interrelationships Tangible interrelationships offer direct opportunities to create a synergy among business units. For example, Bentley can make its multiple units share whatever its possible among the business units to share for cost reduction. This sharing of the procurement activity can result in cost reduction. Outsourcing To decide which activities to outsource, managers of Bentley must understand the firms strengths and weaknesses in each activity, both in terms of cost and capacity to differentiate. Managers may consider the following things when selecting activities to outsource. Competitive position Bentley has good track record of twenty five years in alarm business. It is one of good company in market. After it tried to expand its business into security provision (door supervisors) it facing more problem as this new acquisition is not performing well. If we closely analyze the investment situation it still putting les s on alarm business and getting more compare to its security personals business. Company is selling all its products on fair price as compare to market even if they decide to raise price in all precuts still they have advantage over their rivals in the market. They can easily attract customers on this pricing advantage and by creating new innovation in designing or promotions they can still come back into competitive position in the market. 3 Question Two: Is the CEO correct to conclude that these actions will remove all incentive for another company to take over Bentley? 3 Answer: 3.1 Porter Five Analysis of Company In his book Competitive Strategy, Harvard professor Michael Porter describes five forces affecting the profitability of companies. (Porter 1998) These five forces, taken together, give us insight into a companys competitive position, and its profitability. Rivals For Bentley rival is competitor within industry, this rivalry in the industry is very high for Bentley. As these rivals are competing with Bentley over following factors:- à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Number of rivals in market à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Fixed costs à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Product differentiation New Entrants One of the defining characteristics of competitive advantage is the industrys barrier to entry. In security industry its very low for every one starting security firm as there are many barriers from government and its security regulating agencies. Bentley can enjoy benefits of common barriers to entry: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Patents patented technology can be a huge barrier preventing other firms from joining the market. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ High cost of entry the more it will cost to get started in an industry the higher the barrier to entry. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Brand loyalty As Bentley is in market since 25 years its definatley have some worth related to its products specially its alarm systems. Substitute Products Bently should look keenly for what the companys other competitors are doing, and what other types of products are available in the market as there is advancement in technology so there is high risk from others competitors for Bentley. As is the case dealing with new entrants, company can go into an aggressively price to its products to keep people from switching. Buyer Power There are two types of buyer power. The first is related to the customers price sensitivity. The other type of buyer power relates to negotiating power.Conversely, if a company sells to a few large buyers, those buyers will have significant leverage to negotiate better pricing. Some factors affecting buyer power are: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Size of buyer à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Number of buyers à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Purchase quantity Bentley have advantage in its price and durability of products it have less buyers power broblem. Supplier Power When multiple suppliers are producing a commoditized product, the company will make its purchase decision based mainly on price, which tends to lower costs. On the other hand, if a single supplier is producing something the company has to have, the company will have little leverage to negotiate a better price. Here for Bentley things are favorable with less suppliers power as they depend less over the raw materials. A few factors that determine supplier power include: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Supplier à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Switching costs à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Uniqueness of product 4 Question Three: If the team decides on MBO, how much should they be prepared to pay? 4 Answer: 4.1 Management Buyouts (MBOs) A management buyout MBO is the purchase of a business by its management. Some time owners or the shareholders of any business want to sell the shares of the business or company. For that they give opportunity to the existing management to buy the business. As they know the details of the business and are in a strong position both to worth it and also run it. One can assume that they will make good effort for themselves than for other people. A management buyout is a rare thing in business likely to be a great test of any company and its managements skills in business. Bentley can sell its security Inc as its not performing well and putting problem for the business. For a successful MBO Bentley team may require to focus on some pre MBO arrangement. They not only have to secure their own money and career, but they have to show that they have the vision and proper ability to change their organization and to deliver better outcome as results. Another requirement is their enthusiasm and commitment to convince the management who will buy it that their MBO will work. There are following procedures that required to be followed for a successful MBO. Decision to proceed Managers as investors will be keen to invest in Bentley with predictions which offer the chances of gaining the profits they will invest for. As potential returns maybe higher than current returns because people in new setup will work harder. An understanding of the factors affecting Bentley can help to set forward actions properly. Business plan MBOs are normally highly geared, so the Bentley needs to be able to produce cash and success in the short term. They may have tactics which are practical in the long term, though it will be tricky to assure the investors among management that their future is on growth side. Form the management team A very significant part of a successful MBO is to put a management team that has a high-quality record. Possible investors will like to know how they can make adjustments in than the present team. Bentley must therefore put a clear deliberate plan for the business. Arranging the funding Valuing Bentley Company is complex matter and here is no set rule. Whatever investor will give that will be relate to many things. Those are the balance sheet and current profits. The future potential of the business will be vital but sometimes want of the present owners to sell can be important. Agreeing terms The financing for an MBO normally include the decision-making board and its own interest, its equity and debt position. Different management investors will be looking for diverse returns from this deal, base on the assumed risk they will be taking. Deal co-ordination There can be no set rule for the management to invest into the management buyout. Still, they will require showing the guarantee to the company by creation a major asset of their money, although there can be a massive strain resting on their time and skills. Completion Negotiating for buyout is not always very simple, as there is some concern of unsatisfactory present relations as company is going for MBO. Some management buyout teams can pretense their advisers to take opening move toward success. A talk to buy any business is always a complex activity, and there is fact that seller has vital test. The information contain in the factsheets must never be relied lying on top. 5 Conclusion of Study: We can see that Bentley was handling alarm systems selling effectively but after adopting the security firm it went into many problems. Now it is necessary for them to try a successful management buy-out for that, which can make such arrangements that will help it to get maximum future investment to cover its problems related to other products. Furthermore they can go for a right sizing and downsizing to control the gap of expenses and profits. This way Bentley can go back to its profit position as it was in past before adaptation of the security firm.
